How often should we wash our sleeping pillows?

The average person spends eight to 10 hours a day sleeping. But when we think about sleeping, many people don’t think about how clean the pillow they are lying on is.

Mary Fater, who is known on the Internet as the hygiene expert Madame Sweat, revealed how often we should clean pillows, Express writes.

For example, according to a study by Silentnight, 41 percent of British residents sleep on unwashed pillows every night – leading to acne breakouts, allergies and respiratory irritation.

Pillows trap sweat, dust mites and bacteria, and washing them is almost as important as washing clothes, according to Meri.

“If you don’t have antimicrobial protection for your pillows, you should wash your pillow every three months. Not all pillows are the same. The way you wash them depends on what they are made of,” she said.

High-quality pillows can cost more, but they tend to be more dust-resistant and last longer, Healthline explains.

Pillows made of latex, buckwheat or memory foam should be replaced every three to four years.

In contrast, synthetic pillows are cheaper and easier to clean, but they don’t last as long. Polyester pillows, for example, should be replaced every six months to two years.
